Build a School in Zambia
No child should face barriers to education. Hope Village Community School, Zambia, was created for the purpose of ensuring equal access to education for all children. Our mission is to educate every child. We believe education is key to a strong future and a sustainable community. Our project is the construction of a new brick school with solar electricity, and continual support and management of the school. Also needed is a new well to provided the village with a clean water supply. Currently the well is very far away. Also needed is the building of accommodations for the teachers, and future volunteers. The estimated cost of building a cement block school a new bore hole well is $50,000 USD.
In the future we will offer adult education classes, employment training, social, and women's empowerment groups. Adult education, such as English, and reading and writing lessons, is paramount to helping people of all ages understand the information they are given, and is inextricably linked to the progress of a community. It strengthens a confidence in ones own capacity to know why and how things occur, or to formulate new ideas, to improve on old ones, for example, why a new farming method works or where and how to dig and line a borehole for a well. Making educated decisions based on well informed research can help advance a community. Educating the mind offers limitless possibilities.
About the projects
Fundraising
Support from local communities
For our projects to be a success, involving the local Zambian community is an integral part of our design. Employing talented local teachers, construction companies, and involving parent and village residents in all decisions involving the children and school activitites is crucial.
Objectives
By assessing the needs of Zambian school children, and communicating with their parents and local village officials, an educational plan was created with the objectives that include, a self sustaining, well-equipped, accessible place of learning, in a safe, healthy, setting where children and adults will be able to explore, grow and flourish and an education that is on par with their peers, anywhere in the world.
Ongoing support through donations and fundraising, grants to supply students with educational material, computers, books, teacher training, building maintenance, and new projects are needed. We hope to fund the school by also purchasing a car to be utilized as a non profit volunteer taxi service, where taxi fares, go directly to the school, minus the maintenance and insurance for the car. This is the first non-profit taxi service we know of and we think it is a good idea! If you would like to plan a fundraising event on our behalf, please contact us. We'd love to hear your ideas or share in ways we can help you create them. We'd love to hear from you! T-shirts for sale are coming!
